Calling all saints: Are you looking for ways to grow and deepen your faith?
Maybe now is the time to consider small-group Bible study, where you join with other members to explore the Bible and explore your faith. Small groups provide opportunity to connect with others at WPC, learn together, and experience Christian fellowship. Warning: This may be habit forming, and definitely transformational! New classes will be forming this fall. As Jesus said when he called his disciples, Come and see!
Bible Study - Class Options
“Disciple” Bible Study: There are many studies in the Disciple curriculum from Cokesbury, both long-term (7 months) and short-term (8-10 weeks). Weekly meetings include a short video and discussions of scripture assignments from the workbook. Thought-provoking questions about the readings spark members of the group to share their insights.
- “Christian Believer: Knowing God with Heart and Mind.” The Tuesday morning class is continuing this study meeting September through April. The aim of this study of classical doctrines is to understand what we believe and its ties to scripture. New members are welcome.
- Other options include “Jesus in the Gospels” and the Gospel of John, Romans, Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. Find descriptions at Cokesbury.
Other Studies: There are also “non-Disciple” short-term (6-10 weeks) biblically-based studies. Studies usually include participant study guides or workbooks, short videos and leader guides. The studies suggested for the fall or spring are listed below, beginning with three favorites. Click any study below to expand its description.
“A New Reformation: From Luther’s Time to Ours” by Rob Fuquay
Justified by faith – This rallying cry of the Protestant Reformation is just as relevant and true today. This study introduces you to the life of Martin Luther and two important themes of the Reformation he sparked: the centrality of Scripture and the power of God’s grace. Accompanying DVD was filmed in Germany.
“Moses: In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet” by Adam Hamilton
This study explores the life of Moses from the Nile River to the Reed Sea, from Mt. Sinai to the desert wilderness. Using historical information, archaeological data and biblical text, the author guides us visually (with DVD on location) in the footsteps of this reluctant prophet who blazed a trail of faith.
“Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again” by Rachel Held Evans
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? The Bible is not a static work but a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world. This book is a humorous, warm, smart, and engaging invitation to love the Bible, and so renew one's faith in God. This could be a 4-week class.
