From disaster relief and emergency services to hunger relief and housing services, the Salvation Army exists to meet human need wherever, whenever, and however we can. Habitat for Humanity of the Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg builds homes, communities and hope in the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Williamsburg, plus the counties of Charles City, James City, New Kent and York, Virginia.
Since 1985, Housing Partnerships, Inc. has served the Williamsburg community and surrounding neighborhoods to ensure that everyone has a safe, warm, and dry home. To accomplish this goal, HPI uses a volunteer-driven approach to repair the homes of the area's most impoverished residents, especially the elderly and the disabled.
Established in 1965, CDR provides early intervention services for children aged 0-3 and their families throughout the Historic Triangle, including Williamsburg, James City County, York County and Poquoson. CDR is a comprehensive resource for parents, teachers and physicians.
For many seniors in our community, Meals on Wheels can be the difference between remaining in their own homes or relocating to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, friendly visit and safety check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging; hunger, isolation and loss of independence. Research proves when seniors have the right support they gain greater quality of life, need fewer hospital stays and live longer. Meals on Wheels recipients report improved health, security and independence.
Peninsula Agency on Aging, Inc. (PAA) is committed to advocating for policies and resources to enhance the quality of life for seniors and family caregivers. With baby boomers now reaching senior status, PAA is dedicated to increasing information and services that stand the test of time like in-home care, dining centers, transportation, and meals on wheels.
The Arc of Greater Williamsburg serves young adults with developmental disabilities as they age out of special education in our public schools at age 22. Since 1976 they have provided 8-10 monthly activities and programs in the evenings to enhance the quality of life and reinforce the abilities of their clients. Additionally, The Arc conducts a Day Support Program, offering continuing education, life skills, and vocational training.
