As I prepare to leave I wanted to share a few logistical details. An important part of the sabbath time is disengaging for a time from my ministry work. I will not be answering email or returning phone calls until I return in August. If there is a question or concern please address it with other staff. Rev. Don Troast will be acting as temporary Head of Staff and overseeing the staff and administration. Rachel and Pam will be available and continue their ministry with added preaching responsibilities. I rest easy knowing that the church is in good hands and that our staff will continue our important ministry here.
Ellen and I will be taking this opportunity to worship with other congregations during this time. I look forward to “visiting” other churches in Williamsburg and where ever we find ourselves on a Sunday.
We will be in town in between our trips and you may see us in the grocery store or walking in Colonial Williamsburg. Feel free to say hello, you don’t have to avoid us, but we would appreciate not getting into “church business.”
When we return we will plan some intentional times to share stories, pictures and learnings we gathered on the sabbatical. The goal of a clergy sabbath time is to have the time to explore and ponder life and ministry, to rest and be renewed.
Thank you for your prayers. We’ll see you in August.
Peace, John
