Gregory Cathcart
Director of Youth, College & UKirk Ministries
Cory stems from a long line of ministers on both sides of his family. His grandfather, from Edinburgh, Scotland, was a soldier in the Scottish “Black Watch” regiment and later became a pastor, as were his great-grandfathers before him. His father, who also served in the ministry for many years, immigrated to this country via Australia.
Beginning with his young-adult years as a student-athlete at the University of Missouri and a brief stint in the NFL, Cory brings an eclectic background to this new role at WPC. He moved on to serve for six years as a social worker and counselor to residents in a skilled nursing long-term care setting, specializing in Alzheimer’s care and oncology. Seminary was his next stop while earning his commission as a Naval Officer and subsequently serving as a Navy Chaplain for thirty years.
While in the Navy, Cory served at various commands within the sea services, including Marine Barracks 8th & I, and Camp David. In addition to various commands, perhaps his most defining assignment was serving at every level of the Naval Special Warfare Command for three consecutive tours. This included SEAL Teams 2-10 and Development Group, aka SEAL Team Six. He subsequently made eight deployments during his tours to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations. He served as the Deputy Command Chaplain for Afghanistan and later the Force Chaplain for Naval Special Warfare Command and other various commands and assignments.
Cory is most proud of his family! He and his wife Patricia have been married for twenty-five years. They and their daughter Bella have lived in Williamsburg for twenty-three years. Patricia has been the cornerstone of the family. In addition to stepping away from her career as a buyer and manager in high-end retail to be a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, she was a key player in helping create and develop the Virtual Virginia Homeschool program locally. The initiative was initially for their daughter but grew to serve many others. Patricia has since returned to retail as an assistant manager for Talbots.
Cory and Patricia are the proud parents of their only daughter Bella, who is a Williamsburg native and is currently a student at the University of South Carolina, majoring in Kinesiology and Public Administration. They also spoil their beloved miniature Dachshund, LuLu Belle.
