Here at WPC, we view all we do as part of our Christian Education. It is church life that truly helps us grow in faith, and find our way in this world. Thus it is important to us to include our children in as many opportunities as possible. Some of those are listed below. If you wish to help with these ministries please see our Child, Youth, and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy and complete the volunteer form within.
On Sunday Mornings from 9:30-10:30am Children are challenged, guided, and supported as they grow to understand who God is and what we are called to do as those created in God's image. Beginning at 9:15 all students are welcomed at our Gather Together Time in Multipurpose Room 2A on the Second Floor where they learn together through art, music and prayer before heading to their graded classes.
We offer worship bags that can be found in the hallway between the sanctuary and the church office to help children follow along in our worship. These include children's bulletins, books, and activities that connect to the service that day. Also, during 11am Worship Service, children ages 3 years to 2nd Grade leave the worship service after our Sharing Faith With Children time for a special age appropriate worship experience, and return following the sermon. In addition to these regular occurring pieces of worship we also have two children's choirs.
Childcare for infants and toddlers is available for ALL Sunday worship services, and for many other events occurring in our church throughout the year. Jodie Davis, our Director of Child Care, leads a highly qualified staff of child caregivers who, along with church member volunteers, provide a warm welcome for infants and young children – and their parents. All staff members and adult volunteers are background checked and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certified. Our nursery also uses an optional pager system, where parents can be notified by pager during Church School or Worship Services if necessary. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer with this ministry, and get to know the youngest members of our congregation, please contact Jodie Davis at the Church Office (757-229-4235).
Our Director of Education Ministries and Board of Deacons lead a series of classes for anyone in the 8th grade or beyond in preparation for active membership in the church. These classes engage students in Bible study, mission, fellowship and worship, while asking students to think about and speak to their own faith and experiences.
Life is full of mile markers. Places we remember passing as we roll along the road of life. Our faith is full of these mile markers as well. With that in mind we have created a program to connect special moments in life with important pieces of the faith journey.
We strive to provide opportunities to educate and support parents through church school classes, educational programs and other resources. We seek to help fulfill our baptismal promises to our children together. Check out the info on our Parents Page or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact “A” Williams.
