The purpose of the Church can be summed up by the Great Ends of the Church:
Specifically WPC gathers in the name of Jesus Christ to worship God and by the power of the Holy Spirit do God’s work in the world.
Our vision is: In response to God’s love for all humankind as shown in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the people of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church:
WPC is a member of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA), a nationwide denomination with more than two million members.
The congregation elects and ordains both women and men to serve three-year terms of active service as an elder or a deacon. Elders are responsible for the spiritual well-being and overall governance of the congregation. Deacons are responsible for care and support of members of the congregation.
We celebrate two sacraments as Presbyterians, baptism and communion, both of which are understood to be communal in nature.
In the sacrament of baptism, the individual is welcomed into the church and into the community of those who accept God's love. The congregation’s ongoing responsibility is to support the Christian life of the baptized individual, thus they become part of the greater community of members who put their faith and trust in Jesus.
“In life and in death, we belong to God.” No one knows exactly when, but we all know a day will come in the future when someone you love will have to plan your funeral or memorial service. One of the most meaningful gifts we can leave is a record of our preferences for that important worship service. Below is a resource you may use as your guide in this process. You can print a copy to be put with your will or you could leave it with us at the church where the pastor can use it when they sit down with your loved one.
